Mala: Skt. mala; Tib. འཕྲེང་བ་ treng-wa, is a rosary that consists of 108 or 111 beads and is used to count the recitation of mantra. The beads can be made of various substances such as crystal, lotus seed, wood, stone, coral, bodhi seed and more – each type of substance is thought to have a unique quality. A mala is usually held in the left hand when being used to count mantra recitations.
