Shakyamuni Buddha: Skt. Śākyamuni; Tib. སངས་རྒྱས་ཤཱཀྱ་ཐུབ་པ་ Sangyay Shakya-t’hupa, refers to the Indian prince Gautama Siddhartha, who reached enlightenment (and thus became a buddha) in the sixth century B.C. The historical Shakyamuni Buddha is the founder and origin of Buddhism; as a buddha he is often depicted as golden in color wearing monk’s robes.
“Just as a blue lotus, rising up, is untainted by the muddy waters,
so too am I untainted by the world, and thus brahman, I am awake”
Spoken by the Buddha when a holy man seeing the Buddha’s perfect
serenity and bliss, asked him who he was – from the Dona Sutta
